Orange man arrested for DUI and assault on law enforcement

On February 16, 2025, Vermont State Police arrested Christopher J. Collins, 44, of Orange, following a crash on Richardson Road.

Troopers responded at 4:29 AM and located Collins, who showed signs of impairment. Troopers determined Collins had struck property before crashing his car.


As officers attempted to take him into custody for DUI, Collins allegedly assaulted two law enforcement officers and resisted arrest. He was processed and released with a citation to appear in Orange County Superior Court on May 4.


Couple pulls up to scene of a crash, leave in cuffs


On February 15, 2025, Vermont State Police arrested Travis Basnar, 23, of Bradford, for DUI and Donna Guillette, 22, of Norwich, for impeding public officers and resisting arrest.


Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Goshen Road in Bradford at 1:06 AM. While investigating, an uninvolved vehicle arrived to pull one of the crashed vehicles back onto the road.



Guillette exited the vehicle and repeatedly attempted to approach the scene, despite officers’ commands to stay away. After some time, she was taken into custody for refusing officer orders and resisting arrest.


Basnar, the driver of the uninvolved vehicle, displayed signs of impairment and was arrested for DUI. Both were transported to the St. Johnsbury Barracks for processing and released with citations to appear in Orange County Superior Court on March 26.


Barton man arrested for lewd and lascivious conduct with a child


On February 14, 2025, Vermont State Police arrested Rodney Libbey, 57, of Barton, following an investigation into suspected sexual abuse.


Authorities from the Vermont State Police and the Department of Children and Families launched a joint investigation after receiving a report of misconduct on February 3. 


Libbey was charged with lewd and lascivious conduct with a child and is scheduled to appear in Orleans County Superior Court on March 25.


Two found dead in parked car, no foul play suspected


On February 14, 2025, Vermont State Police responded to a report of a vehicle parked for an extended period on Route 14 in Brookfield.


Troopers arrived at 9:25 PM and found two individuals unresponsive inside a gray Hyundai Elantra. Barre Town Rescue attempted to save the pair, but both individuals, a 59-year-old woman and a 63-year-old man were pronounced dead at the scene.


Detectives from the Vermont State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations determined the deaths were not suspicious. The Vermont Chief Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct autopsies to determine the cause of death.
