Hartford man indicted for fentanyl possession and distribution

Christopher Stephens, 38, of Hartford CT is facing federal charges relating to alleged distribution of fentanyl in the Burlington area.


On three separate occasions between June 11, 2024 and July 23, 2024, Stephens is alleged to have sold fentanyl to an undercover police officer in Burlington.


Police then raided a hotel Stephens was staying at on June 23 in Shelburne where they found fentanyl packaged for street level distribution.


Police arrested Stephens on January 16 in Burlington. When police arrested Stephens, they also seized a Walther .380 caliber firearm with a loaded magazine.


If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison on each count.


Burlington Police raid two drug dens


On the morning of January 22, 2025, the Burlington Police Department’s Drug Unit and Emergency Response Unit conducted two operations, one on North Winooski Ave and one on Grant St.


On North Winooski Avenue, one individual was taken into custody.  Jamal Curtis, 43, of Manhattan, NY for alleged drug distribution and outstanding warrants from both Bennington, Vermont, and New York City.


At Grant St. police removed over 10 individuals from the premises.


Agencies involved include: The Burlington Police Department, Drug Enforcement Administration, Department of Homeland Security, and the Chittenden County Sheriff’s Department

Domestic assault in Danby


Vermont State Police received a report of a possible domestic disturbance on Cascade Rd. in Danby on January 23.


Police arrived on the scene around 3pm, where they found that Gayle S. Goodrich allegedly used his vehicle to intentionally crash into a family member's vehicle while that family member was driving on the road.

Police then say he used a wrench to break the driver's side glass window of the family member's vehicle while they were seated in the driver's seat. 


While police were there, it was further discovered Goodrich committed a domestic assault on the previous day, against the same family member.  


Police took 66-year-old Goodrich into custody. He was lodged at the Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility without bail.


Brutal assault in Brownington leads to arrest


Vermont State Police have arrested Michael Riendeau Jr., 44, of Brownington for assault.

Police received a report of an assault on January 22 around 10pm. When police arrived, they found that Riendeau had allegedly caused “serious bodily injury” to another man, who is older.


Police did not reveal any motive behind the attack.


Riendeau was lodged at Northern State Correctional Facility without bail and appeared in court on January 23.
