Man accused in 2018 South Burlington murder makes plea deal

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - The man accused of killing his girlfriend in their South Burlington home and then fleeing to Jamaica has made a plea deal.

Police said Leroy Headley killed Anako “Annette” Lumumba in 2018. The couple shared two children. Headley was arrested almost two years later hiding out in Jamaica.

Friday morning, Headley appeared in court for a change of plea hearing.

Under an agreement, Headley would plead guilty to second-degree murder and serve 20 years to life in prison.

The judge has not yet signed off on the deal.

WCAX News has a crew in court and we will update you when we know more.

Lumumba was shot to death at their Southview Drive home on May 3, 2018.

Headley was the subject of a lengthy manhunt and was eventually captured in February 2020 hiding out in his native Jamaica.
