Newport man arrested for selling and possessing cocaine

On February 28, 2025, the VSP Drug Task Force and Newport PD executed a search warrant at a residence on East Main Street in Newport, resulting in the arrest of two individuals on drug-related charges.

Brandon Cote, 34, of Newport, was arrested for two counts of selling cocaine, possession of cocaine, and possession of a regulated drug. Rowena Jones, 35, also of Newport, was arrested for possession of cocaine and a regulated drug. The arrests followed a months-long investigation by the Vermont Drug Task Force into cocaine distribution in Newport.

During the search, officers located illegal drugs and evidence of drug sales.


Cote was processed at the Newport Police Department and ordered held at Northern State Correctional Facility on a combined bail of $1,200.


The Vermont Drug Task Force was assisted by the Newport Police Department, St. Albans Police Department, Orleans County Sheriff’s Department, and the FBI. Waterbury man arrested for 4th DUI after slow-speed chase


On March 2, 2025, at approximately 11:00 p.m., Vermont State Police arrested William “Dusty” Ranew, 42, of Waterbury, for his fourth DUI offense, eluding a police officer, and driving with a criminally suspended license.

Troopers from the Berlin Barracks attempted to stop Ranew on Guptil Road in Waterbury for a motor vehicle violation. Instead of stopping, Ranew continued to drive at a slow speed before eventually pulling into a residence on Howard Avenue.


Upon making contact with Ranew, troopers observed signs of impairment and took him into custody. He was transported to the Berlin Barracks for processing and later released on conditions to appear in court.


Poultney man arrested for domestic assault involving deadly weapon


On March 1, 2025, at approximately 2:34 p.m., Vermont State Police responded to a domestic violence incident on Furnace Street in Poultney.

An investigation determined that Peter Senecal, 25, had assaulted a family or household member, causing injury, and had threatened them with a deadly weapon. The incident took place in the presence of two children.


Senecal was located and taken into custody by the Brandon Police Department. He was transported to the Rutland Barracks for processing before being issued conditions of release.


Shrewsbury man arrested for two counts of aggravated domestic assault


On February 27, 2025, at approximately 8:35 p.m., Vermont State Police responded to a domestic violence report at a residence on VT Route 103 in Shrewsbury.

An investigation revealed that Joseph Marro, 63, had committed first-degree aggravated domestic assault on two separate occasions. After gathering evidence and interviewing the victim, police located Marro later that evening and took him into custody without incident.

Marro was processed at the Rutland Barracks and ordered held without bail.
