Police: 2 dead following Colchester murder-suicide

COLCHESTER, Vt. (WCAX) - Police are investigating the shooting deaths of a Colchester couple following what they are calling a murder-suicide Wednesday evening.

It happened around 9:45 p.m. at a home on Holy Cross Road. Colchester Police say a neighbor reported hearing a fight and a “loud bang.” When police arrived, they said they found the bodies of the married couple. They say it appears the husband shot his wife with a handgun and then turned the gun on himself.

“The kind of added tragedy to this is that there was a minor child in the residence at the time. The child is unharmed, and that child is in the care of relatives,” Colchester Police Chief Doug Allen said.

Police have not released the names of the people who died.

The Vermont State Police Major Crime Unit was also called in to help investigate.
