BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Burlington police say they arrested two teens on Monday in connection with the shooting of a man found injured outside a downtown bar two weeks ago.
Police say Tyrin Smith, 19, of Burlington, was charged with first-degree attempted murder. A 17-year-old female was also taken into custody for accessory after the fact.
Police say on April 29, Smith and another person climbed up a fire escape on Main Street and broke down a wall into a third-story apartment. Officers say they were looking for a person they had exchanged threatening electronic messages with. Smith then allegedly shot Aquill Nickson in the upper chest. Officers say Nickson was not the person Smith was exchanging messages with.
Following the shooting, police say Nickson fled to the street below outside Manhattan Pizza across from Church Street, where officers found him.
Police say Smith does not have a Vermont criminal history, but has 36 police contacts in Valcour, and is the suspect in four incidents of burglary/robbery. Officers also say they found large quantities of drugs at Smith’s North Avenue home. Nickson has an extensive criminal history in Pennsylvania.
Smith is being held without bail.
