Vermont man charged with attempted murder in stabbing

STAMFORD, Vt. (WCAX) - A Vermont man pleaded not guilty to attempted murder charges following a stabbing early Thursday.

It happened at a home on Jepson Road at around 12:34 a.m.

The Vermont State Police say Benjamin Taylor, 24, of Stamford, was arrested on charges of attempted murder and first-degree aggravated domestic assault. The victim, a 52-year-old man who also resided in the house, was hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

Police released no additional details on what prompted the dispute or Taylor’s relationship with the victim.

In Vermont Superior Court Thursday afternoon, Taylor pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted murder and first-degree aggravated assault.

Taylor was screened by a psychiatrist before the arraignment, and the defense argued that he should be placed in the Vermont State Hospital for psychiatric treatment. However, it was determined that no beds are available there, and Taylor poses a significant risk to himself and others. The judge ordered that he be held without bail.
